Lisa Holmberg's Medical Assistance

As friends and family of Lisa Holmberg, we are so happy to see her progressing through her medical treatments over the last six months. Lisa is so grateful for all the hopes and prayers from everyone. She is overwhelmed by everyone that has pitched in and provided her assistance to her and her children over the last few months. Just imagine being a single mother in the hospital for 8 weeks and having three children that need to be taken care of.
Lisa grew up in Bridgeview and graduated from Argo High School in 1987. She went on to Northern IL University and became a school teacher in Henderson, Nevada. While teaching full time she earned her Master’s degree and continued taking classes beyond that.
She is a single mother of three beautiful children Cody (15), Annika (9) and Lucas (5). She is the sole provider for the three children due to the tragic deaths of their fathers.
In 2014 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She successfully went through treatment and thought she was on her way to a full recovery. This past summer she began to experience back pain and had trouble walking at times. In August she learned she had a tumor in her back that was the same form of cancer she originally experienced. She immediately had surgery but because of the severity of the tumor, surgery was unsuccessful causing severe nerve damage, loss of feeling in her legs and the complete inability to walk. She spent many weeks in the hospital undergoing radiation treatment and physical therapy. The doctors had even told her she may be unable to walk again. But with Lisa’s determination and strong will, she made excellent progress in her recovery. She then spent another several weeks in a rehabilitation facility and did amazingly well. She now goes to outpatient physical therapy several times a week and is walking again.
Lisa has been unable to work this entire school year. Even though she is on paid leave she has all the additional financial burdens from these medical issues. There are thousands of dollars of medical bills not covered by insurance, special medical equipment, and all the additional costs associated with the travel multiple times a week to doctors and physical therapy.
Most recently the insurance company has declined the prescription drug Lyrica for her nerve pain. This may be re-examined by the insurance company after the doctor’s experiment with other drugs.
Additionally, there are many things around her house that she is unable to take care of and maintain.
Thankfully, by the grace of god, prayers from so many, and Lisa’s positive outlook, she is planning on returning to work at the end of February. Lisa will continue with monthly doctor appointments, MRI scans, physical therapy, and figuring out the right prescriptions and treatments for her nerve pain.
During this hard time we are reaching out to everyone who could help her going forward. All donations will be used for medical and associated expenses. Lisa’s goal is to get back to 100% healthy.. Thank you all so much for your support; We, her family and friends, truly appreciate this from the bottom of our hearts! We look forward to being able to tell Lisa all the support everyone has put forth and know she will be absolutely overwhelmed.
