This summer, Canada will host the third edition of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Women’s World Championship from June 24 – June 30, 2017 in Langley, British Columbia at McLeod Stadium. Six nations will compete with their top female tackle football players.
Sports have always been a huge part of my life. I started playing rugby in high school and after I graduated I was introduced to football. I decided to give it a try and I fell in love with the game immediately. I started off playing for The Calgary Rage, this year will be my 7th season being involved in the sport. I am now currently playing football with the Detroit Dark Angels.

Some of the reasons why I play this game is for the adrenaline rush it gives, the hard work it entails and most importantly the goals I am able to set for myself and achieve. For all the years I have played, the aspect of family that this game brings is my absolute favorite part. The women you meet in this game are incredible and they all are working towards the same purpose. Win or lose, to me, that's the most rewarding aspect.

In January 2017, I was given the opportunity to be a part of the 2017 Team Canada Roster. I get to show the world what woman can do on the field and I want people to recognize that this is not just a mans sport. I am incredibly honored to be part of this growing revolution and this wonderful game not only for myself but for the all young women around the world. It’s not every day that you get to wear the Canadian logo and represent your country for all its worth. I am very proud to share the love and passion of this game with the world.

Players must cover their travel expenses and fees to compete at the World Championship which are $1,800. Please consider donating any amount to help me achieve my goal and represent my country at the Women's World Championship. Your help is always appreciated.
Sincerely,
Lisa Gomes
