Hi, I'm Bianca and I decided to start a fund to help my best friend Lisa Calder. Lisa is an extremely talented and highly respected horse trainer in her field. She is also a CDWPA clinician for Cowboy Dressage. She has touched many lives, both equine and human, and helped them reconnect and find their true self within their human-horse relationship. Lisa is entirely self-employed and is on the road 5 to 6 days a week to train with her clients at horse facilities across Northern California. She was training horses and clients at a stable in South Sacramento on Thursday evening when her life changed forever.
At approximately 5:30 pm while finishing up her last lesson of the day, she heard the horrible sound of what sounded like a car accident on the road in front of the stables. Lisa and several people jumped in her car and drove out to the main road to see if there were any people that were injured that needed help and assistance. What they found was beyond comprehension. A large Cadillac Escalade had driven off the road and down a 60 foot embankment and had crashed into a tree at an extremely high rate of speed. The force of the crash was so strong that the Escalade was unrecognizable and had exploded into hundreds of pieces. They quickly assessed the situation to locate any survivors that needed help, but it soon became apparent that there were no signs of life from any of the 5 people that had been ejected from the vehicle. Shockingly, the driver of the crash emerged from part of the wreckage and appeared to not be seriously injured. He became despondent and extremely panicked, then started walking towards Lisa and her car that she had parked on the side of the road. The driver then entered her car and located the keys and tried to put them in the ignition. Lisa instinctively entered her car and attempted to stop the man from driving away. A struggle ensued as she tried to recover the keys from the ignition, but the driver eventually overpowered her and pushed her out of the vehicle during the carjacking. He eventually led police on a high speed chase that ended 13 miles away. Unbeknownst to Lisa, the man was a violent felon on parole. Lisa's car had been totaled by the time the suspect was apprehended, and It was confiscated by law enforcement as part of the investigation into the crime. Lisa sustained some minor injuries in the struggle, and has to process the images of 5 horribly mangled lifeless victims. In the short term, the loss of her car will have significant financial effects on her and her family as it is her sole form of transportation to and from stables and clients across the area. This severely impacts her ability to make a living and has left her in a difficult position with her insurance not able to cover the full cost of a long-term rental with Lisa having to pay out of pocket for a portion of it. Lisa works so hard to help others without expecting anything in return and was doing what came naturally as a good samaritan to help victims of a car accident when this incident occured. I'm hoping that I can do whatever I can to help her with the purchase of a used car or the cost of a long-term rental so she can return to work. Anything you can give would be so greatly appreciated.
