- I’m Nikki and I am Lisa and Eric’s daughter. As most of you know Mom and Dad both have been battling some health issues . Last year mom had a heart attack and has continued to have issues this year which resulted in having a Stent placed and watching the other blockages closely. She starts 7 weeks of treatment in June for symptoms she experiences due to small vessel disease which they found when she had her heart attack. She will start her treatment once Dad completes his. Most likely All related to stress unfortunately.
- So Dad was recently diagnosed with throat/neck cancer which has spread to his lymph nodes . He had surgery in Feb and now is staying at The Caring house in Durham for 7 weeks for daily radiation at Duke. He will also receive weekly chemo. Mom is not able to stay with him as she is still having to work until the shop closes with the sale hopefully sometime this month. We have always told my parents to live and travel before it is too late. They were always afraid to close the shop because they worked to live and to set themselves up for eventually retiring. Although they cherished their cheese shoppe and friends they have made there along the way, The Sale came at a time where now it is more necessary and unfortunately they are juggling a lot in this time. Travel expenses up to Duke for Mom, food, hotels, arrangements so my grandparents can also go with my mom as she likes to have them near. I know they would never ask and will most likely get mad that I even set this up but we love them, the community loves them and I just want them to get through this so they can live “retired” life how it’s meant to be lived and take one less worry away. I don’t want them to have to spend all their retirement worrying . Their Grandkids want to be able to spend time with them and not see them stressed out as they have been for years. I just want to see them feel as though life is a blessing every day and that it takes a village. I’ll handle them getting aggravated with me for setting this up. I’ve been in trouble before but they never stay mad too long.
