Dear friends,
I am recording a new album, and I’m excited to share new songs that many of you have heard me sing over the past couple of years at HeartSongs gatherings, Chochmat Halev services, and other community events. This album will include mostly songs in English — something new for me. In recent years, I’ve felt a deepening connection to English poetry and have been working on my own writing in English as well.
I’ll be recording with the esteemed Canadian producer and engineer Don Benedictson. The album will also feature many renowned musicians, including Julie Wolf (known for her work with Ani DiFranco, Bruce Cockburn, Indigo Girls, and others), vocalist Daniela Gesundheit, (a Canadian-American vocalist, composer, Chochmat Halev cantor, and co-founder of the art-pop duo Snowblink) and Rachel Valfer (the vocal soloist of the Qadim Ensemble, oud player, and expert on Mizrahi music).
I am so grateful for your support, which allows me to continue creating music and prayer. Professional recordings are costly to produce, and it can take years to earn back the expenses. Your support in helping bring this new music to life means so much to me. Every donation, large or small, is truly appreciated. Each contribution adds up and eventually becomes … music.
About the songs:
“Into the Dark” – Inspired by Rilke’s poem "You Darkness"; a mysterious melody inviting us to rest in the unknown.
“Like This” – Based on Rumi’s poem "Like This"; a spiritual invitation to soften life’s complexities and find refuge in simplicity.
“One Heart” – A composed poem by Li-Young Lee, containing the beautiful line: “Even flying is born out of nothing.”
“Go in Peace” – A song by Sam Baker, sung in both English and Hebrew.
“December Morning” – A Berkeley love-story song.
“Waiting” – A song of longing, tenderness, and quiet love.
“All I See” – Written after October 7th, 2023.
Thank you so much for your support. I look forward to seeing you at one of the next musical gatherings.
With love,
Lior
