Help Phil, Rachel & Sam After Phil's Accident
Please give what you can to help this wonderful family. Life can change for any one of us in a moment, as it did here for Rachel, Phil and their young son, Sam.
Phil, Rachel and Sam’s story
Phil was crossing the road on 23rd December 2020 when he was struck by an oncoming car. He sustained a very significant frontal brain injury and brain haemorrhage. He was put in a medically induced coma. Four days after the accident, he had his upper skull removed to prevent further trauma. He'll have a prosthetic one put in next year and wears a safety helmet now for protection. He was in a coma for 14 days, took 8 weeks to "emerge" from it and has spent a total of 6 months in hospital (3 months of which with no visitors became of covid).
Recovery from a significant brain injury takes at least 2 years, but Phil's injury has also caused epilepsy, which is a serious and ongoing condition. Rachel will become Phil's full-time carer when he leaves hospital very soon.
Phil is classed as having cognitive disability which means he has trouble with thinking, understanding and information processing. He's lost so much of his confidence too.
Your Help Really Matters
As someone who is self-employed, Rachel is not entitled to much financial support. As a full-time carer, which is what Rachel will be, the weekly allowance will not be enough to support a young family. This fundraiser has been created to try and alleviate financial pressures they are facing, so that they can focus on Phil’s recovery and themselves as a family in their new circumstances.
I know Rachel, as a midwife, health visitor, and hypnobirthing teacher, has had such a positive impact on so many people’s lives. If you can even donate a few pounds, it would make SUCH a difference.
