My story. 3 years ago my mother had a cardiac arrest and after myself and the paramedics performing CPR my mother sadly passed away by my side. Only 5 weeks later following a routine investigation I ended up with a complication resulting in sepsis and went into organ failure, was put on life support and was given a 50/50 chance that I would make it through the night. Thankfully I did and I fought hard the next 2 months in icu, needing 4 major operations and also needing a colostomy bag. One year on I went for more surgery and thankfully I had my colostomy bag reversed. With everything that went on my mental health took a turn for the worst and the trauma of losing my mother and the experience of my hospital admission I was being treated for (ptsd) Thankfully I asked for help and the doctors made different referrals to the right people ,one being Links counselling service here in the mid Ulster area, my work also helped me in every way by supporting my needs and letting me out once a week to go to my session at links, i will be forever grateful for this as I'm in a much better place mentally. With the links counselling service being only half funded from the northern trust and the other half they rely on funding from the public, so that's why I've decided to run my first ever half marathon in Belfast 22nd of September 24 to rais funds and also spread the word about this service that's out there for anyone that is struggling.
