Our nephew, Derek Vovchuk was diagnosed with Dedifferentiated Parosteol Osteosarcoma and Mast Cell Activation disease, both of which are very rare. In December of 2019, he had limb salvage surgery on his right leg from the hip down to his knee. Additionally, he has been undergoing extensive treatment since the end of 2019 at the Children’s Hospital at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, AL.

As many of you are aware, prior to Derek’s diagnosis, the family was greatly impacted by Hurricane Michael, where their home was destroyed by the storm. Since then the family has been living in a travel camper in their driveway while fighting the home-owner’s insurance company. 

As he nears the completion of his chemotherapy regiments, we are looking to get together and help raise some funds to assist with his medical expenses, additional treatments, and any transition and living costs as he moves away from the weekly Chemotherapy treatments.

We are extremely excited as he is nearing the end of this phase in his long journeyand look forward his speedy recovery and return to normalcy as a young adult!
