Lineman Training: A New Start for Darnez

Donation protected
  • Hello. My name is Darnez Herring and I'm a recovering addict. I know this may be an awkward way to start my story underlining my reasons for asking you guys for your donations, but I am only being completely sincere and 100% transparent with all of you in an attempt to avoid any discrepancies. I want you all to get the best feel possible for the person whom you are blessing.

  • I started struggling with drugs shortly after high school after an abrupt end to my sports career. Other than the time I now spend with my kids, the last time I can recall having such joyful or genuinely happy times in my life was in high school. Back when I truly felt I was well on my way to making something great of myself. What I wanted to be most as a kid, more so than a ballplayer (I WANTED TO BE A BALLPLAYER REALLY BAD), was a good daddy to my kids. Well, needless to say, I kinda got off track with that.

  • Over the past 2 decades, I've been in and out of all kinds of rehabilitation institutions. Prison reform as well as drug. Over the span of those 20+ years, God has blessed me with 4 children of my own, of whom I still plan to give the world. My oldest, Christopher (20), is currently not talking to me. Of all my kids, I've put him through the most. He still loves me, of this I am sure. As long as I breathe, there is opportunity. I will give him something very special to be proud of by me as his father.

  • I have a daughter, Memphis (12), whom I desperately have to get up under my roof. I'm not gonna go into full detail, but believe me when I say she needs her daddy right now. I am trying to convince her grandparents that she has the greatest chance for a healthy, joyful, and successful life with my fiancé, her two younger brothers, and myself.

  • The goal is to get enrolled at The North American Lineman Training Academy, classes start May 19. The total cost for my schooling will top $20,000. That cost includes full tuition, housing, tools, and CDL training and licensing. Once school starts, I will study harder than anyone else and graduate at the top of my class. NALT has a 94% hire rate for its graduates. If I can get myself hired on with Alabama Power or another smaller utility company before the start of next school year, I think that'll be enough to show Memphis' grandparents that I'm serious about my future as well as my daughter's.

  • My track record isn't the best, so it's gonna take some convincing to show that I have put my old life in my rearview and I am keenly focused on what's in front of me. My daughter's grandparents have played the role of grandma and grandpa as well as mommy and daddy for her. I am so very grateful for all that they have been for Memphis. It's time I step up to play my role as Superman for her.

  • Her younger brothers, Jerry (6) and Sequon (7 months), are such a special duo. I just know they're going to change things for the better, a little bit, in this cold world. Especially since they have their very own superhero fighting for them!

  • Regardless of whether or not any of you decide that this cause is worth donating your money to, I'm gonna get into this school. I'm gonna graduate top of my class and begin my career as an electrical lineman while maintaining a healthy home life for my spouse (Blake), all of our kids, and myself. And to any/all who are willing to help me accomplish this goal, please know that I am forever thankful, appreciative, grateful, and blessed to have such angels in my corner. I will continue to post my progress as I walk head high into what I will make as my future.

  • There are no doubt more dire situations people are enduring posted on this website and the world over. But please believe that in assisting me in this cause, you are no doubt helping to save a life as well as assisting in making the lives of many others better. Thank you all!
