Lineman Keith Meza

Hi, my name is Scooby Taylor, fellow lineman brother and close friend of 15 years to Keith. I am raising funds to help Keith's family with their unexpected immediate needs out of town, and for the long road ahead with Keith's care and medical bills.

Last Thursday, April 4th, Keith was on a storm call in Massachusetts. He and the guys went out to lunch around noon, and afterwards, they all went back to their rooms to rest up and get ready for what was ahead after the storm passed. That evening, his Mom had a stroke. When his Dad, sisters, wife Donna and daughter Haley, could not get ahold of him, Donna called the hotel. She asked them to please check on him because he was probably resting up for the long days ahead and to please just let him know there was a family emergency and he needed to call his wife. The hotel worker had to break into his room and found him unresponsive on the bed. She called 911 and they rushed him to the hospital.

Around 9:00 that night, they called Donna to let her know what happened. She and Haley were up all night trying to figure out how to get to him as quickly as possible, while talking to Robby who was on his crew (fellow lineman and longtime friend). Robby kept them updated on everything and helped them get answers to any questions they had. She and Haley took the first flight out from North Carolina.

Donna and Haley were met by Brandon, one of the safety guys for the company, and he took them straight from the airport to the hospital. When they got there, Keith couldn't talk or move his right side. They showed them his CT scan and explained he had a severe stroke and there was a bleed in the left side of his brain. They made the decision to move him to a bigger hospital with a Neurological ICU so he could receive better care. So, Friday night, they transported him to Baystate.

As of right now, he is intubated, sedated, and heavily medicated. They have given him a solution to shrink his brain to allow for swelling. They hope to lower some of the medications to see what kind of response they get and to get a better idea on when they can take his breathing tube out and get him off the sedatives.

Keith still does not have movement on his right side and cannot talk. He cannot follow commands and they don't think he can understand what they are saying due to the bleed being on his left side. They're predicting that there will be some permanent damage and that his speech will be severely affected along with right side movements.

Donna was told they will probably be up there for at least another three weeks, as they have a long journey ahead.

If you can't donate financially, please join us in prayer for Keith and his family, as this has been a huge, unexpected shock. There is a lot of unknown ahead and we hope to help lessen the burden any way we can.

Thank you,
Scooby
