Lindy Davies and his family need your help

Lindy Davies is a kind and decent guy in his early 60s with brain cancer. Kindness and decency are such under-rated, easy to overlook commodities. But these are the characteristics, along with a sense of humor and a generosity of spirit that have always – and will continue – to define Lindy.
Lindy and Lisa have devoted their lives to helping to better the lives of others. Lindy worked tirelessly for economic justice and criminal justice reform and education through the Henry George Institute. Lisa has been a member of the school board in Maine and has worked to make the local public schools more student friendly and relevant to student needs. She currently teaches violin to children, helping to spread her own love of music. Throughout lives spent dedicated to helping, Lisa and Lindy are equally committed to their two children, Eli and Francie. They made major decisions in their lives, including a move to Maine in the 1990s, so that they could give their children the attention and care they needed to grow into the wonderful people they are today,
Now Lindy and his family need our help. Lindy was diagnosed with esophageal cancer that metastasized to the brain in December 2017. He has suffered through repeated surgeries and treatments including chemotherapy, radiation and clinical trials. All have failed to slow the spread of the disease.
Right now, Lindy cannot walk or move his body by himself. He now weighs only 115 pounds. He can not move unassisted from the downstairs couch. He needs help relieving himself and eating. His cognitive abilities are also starting to fail. He has poor short-term memory; his speech is slurred and he is often disconnected.
Lindy’s family needs money to make his final weeks as comfortable as possible and keep up with bills. They need additional home care for the times when Lisa, a Suzuki violin teacher, is teaching at her studio in Bangor 35 minutes away. They still have not received SSDI payments and have put everything – even taxes – on hold and maxed out their credit cards to try to cover his medical expenses. The money from this campaign will help with that care, help with some of the bills, and just to make day-to-day life easier without the constant worry about money.
I don’t think I can describe Lindy and his family’s needs or the stress they are under, better than his wife, Lisa, did the last time we talked.
“I'm so scared and worried that I can hardly speak. I watch Lindy decline, I clean his body, I feed him, I wash his sheets and pants, and I do it all with love and hope. But there is nothing I can do about the money situation. We are behind on all our bills and haven't even looked at the medical bills for this year. I don't even know how to approach our taxes, but I do know we have no money to pay them. I love being able to take care of Lindy and I want to do it for a long time. I miss his strong independence, his will to take care of everything, his sharp intelligence. But I still have his love and I still love him. We still joke around together.
"If I go on longer about Lindy I will start to cry. Our children, Eli and Francie are absolute rockstars about this whole thing; they support me, they support each other, and they are very loving and caring to their Dad.
We have always been very very lucky to have each other. Now we're falling into the horrible abyss of losing our heart and soul. There's nothing anyone can really do for us, except help relieve the worry that comes from outside."
