Hello again everyone!!! BIG EXCITING NEWS for Lindsey!!! I know you all have been waiting patiently and wondering where things are for her parathyroid transplant so I’m here to update you and get a medical fund in place for her in this next step of her journey! Here’s a background as to what Lindsey and her family has been through:

Lindsey has severe hypocalcemia after having thyroid cancer and her parathyroids were removed for hyperplasia. The “normal”treatments for her low calcium are not working. The ONE treatment (Natpara) that was working the best has been pulled off the market. She has received IV calcium through a port in a dialysis type setting for over two years now and goes 1-2 times per week.

She is working with a team of transplant surgeons at University of Alabama who want to help her. She found them by doing her own research at the prodding of some friends who are in medicine. They have launched a parathyroid transplant program and plan for her to be their FIRST recipient. They think this will be the answer to all of her calcium issues and give her significant quality of life back without all the complications of calcium supplementation.

This surgery has not been done in the US. It has been done in other countries and has an 80% success rate at 5 years. Her insurance company has denied paying for the transplant. Herself and the transplant team have appealed and written letters as well as done cost analysis and they are still denying the life saving and life changing transplant. Her family is now faced with paying cash for the procedure. The projected lowest cash cost is $37,000 which does not include travel, or medications. She will have to stay in Alabama for around 2 weeks after the transplant. It is becoming more urgent as the Natpara is becoming no longer available again.

Lindsey is also the daughter of a well known retired Tulsa Fire Captain, John Dyer, also known as Big John:) PLEASE consider donating what you can to help our girl!! She deserves to be healthy again! You’ve got this Linds!!
