I've always been a fan of sunhats and keeping my fair skin shielded from the sun. Despite this, in September of 2015 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic melanoma, which historically has a very poor prognosis. I am lucky in that recent medical developments are giving patients like me longer to live.

I've been fortunate  that I have felt well enough that I could continue working full-time, using sick leave and vacation time for doctor's appointments, tests, and treatments. Now, though, I am receiving IL-2, a highly toxic treatment that requires me to be hospitalized for a week at a time, for up to four rounds of treatment. I have completed one round of treatment and am home recovering before beginning round two on May 31. My vacation and sick time is running out, and I will have to take unpaid leave to receive these treatments that have the potential to save my life. So, on top of mounting medical bills and travel expenses to go to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA, I will miss income to pay those bills and my regular expenses.

Since my diagnosis I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support by family, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances, and I could not have endured the physical and mental struggles of a cancer battle without the generosity of those around me.

At this point in time I need financial help because the hospitalization for treatment and the recovery time from those treatments means I must take unpaid leave. Your assistance will allow me to continue receiving the necessary treatment I need to beat melanoma. Words cannot express my gratitude for any assistance offered.
