Lindsey Preston Recovery

Donation protected

On Wednesday, January 8 at around 6:20am Lindsey was in a bad car accident on her way to work where she hit a dump truck head on in DeMotte. Her car spun and rolled. How many times?  I’m not sure at this point. The good news is that the reaction of the dump truck driver (who walked away and we are so grateful for) and first responders SAVED Lindsey’s life. Amazingly, she had no internal organ or head trauma. Lindsey did sustain some pretty substantial injuries on her left side that require surgery and a long road to recovery. I couldn’t be more optimistic about (just) broken bones considering what she went through. At this point we know she has a broken femur, broken bones in her shoulder, above and below her elbow, damage to her wrist and a broken bone in her hand. She has other cuts and bruises as well and I am sure that things will present themselves more as she recovers. She has been on a ventilator and will stay on it until after surgery. She was intubated by emt’s because she was not responsive at the scene, but the staff here has assured us that she would be off the ventilator if she did not require surgery. Because of that, she has not been able to really talk, but she has been writing her requests on paper and giving an enthusiastic thumbs up when docs explain procedures to us.

Subaru, you have a customer as long as your commitment to safety persists. I have a wife whose hand I can still hold, kiss, and tell her that I love her, a little boy that still has a mommy thanks to all mentioned above and the incredible staff at Saint Anthony’s E.R. , the flight crew from IU Health and the Trauma/ ICU staff at Loyola.

The amount of people sending their love and offering ways to assist us has been so humbling and so big. You all have filled our hearts and we have certainly felt your collective hug around us. Thank you. We love you all and are proud you all are part of our community. As far as how to help, we don’t even know right now. There will be babysitters needed, meals to be cooked, stuff around the house, things around the house to be cleaned, laundry to be folded (I have been notoriously terrible at this in the past, though I will do my best. I’m more of a vacuum and mop guy.)

There will also be bills. We are not asking for donations, but I do know the joy of helping others and feeling the urge to help one another. If you are looking for a way to help Lindsey and our family or to aid us in covering medical expenses, trips to rehab, road meals, extra babysitting, hotel stays, missed work, home modifications if needed, and all those things we are oblivious to at the moment- we are not too proud to graciously accept your prayers or gifts in whatever form they manifest. Again, thank you all for the love and willingness to jump in and help others without question. I am constantly reminded why we live where we live and why we love who we love. If you feel so moved, friends and family have helped us to set up a gofundme account to assist us.
Humbly and incredibly gratefully,
Ryan, Lindsey, and Anson
