Lindsays Endometriosis Surgery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kylee and I am fundraising for my lovely oldest sister Lindsay.
Lindsay was diagnosed with stage 1 endometriosis in 2020 after 20+ years of symptoms. Over the years, Lindsay was prescribed birth control, various pain killers and sent for countless ultrasounds. Every time she went to the doctor, she was told it was normal to have pain as a woman and to just get on with it. At 13 years old she was already missing school days due to severe pain, nausea and vomiting while on her period, she is now 35 years old.
In 2020 she was finally listened to and underwent a surgery to remove her Fallopian tubes where they discovered the endometriosis. Since then, her condition has progressed quickly into a severe stage 4- she has gone through MRIs, Ultrasounds, laparoscopic surgeries, medications and much more with no resolution of symptoms. As her situation worsens, cysts continue to grow and intrude into organs in her abdomen; she has exacerbated all possible avenues of treatment and has been told it is up to 12+ months for a surgery date. If Lindsay waits for surgery through our Public Health Service she will be put on an intense hormone drug used to treat cancer- only in an attempt to manage pain, NOT for treatment- which will force her into a medically induced menopause.
The most recent MRIs and surgeries show deep infiltrating endometriosis lesions, severe adhesions, and bilateral endometriomas. Her ovaries, uterus, and sigmoid colon are “tethered” together meaning her pelvis is essentially frozen. She also has deep infiltrating lesions in the posterior pocket which affects her rectosigmoid colon- running the risk of requiring a bowel resection and possibly a stoma. Lindsays quality of life has been reduced significantly in the recent years, she misses work and events due to pain and has learnt to plan her life around taking pain killers around the clock in an attempt to manage.
All funds will go towards Lindsay's travel, accommodation and treatment at Bucharest Endometriosis Centre in Romania. Surgery costs are $9,000, plus $5,000 for accommodations and travel. There are no clinics in Canada to complete this surgery faster, and costs are more than double in the USA. Any left over funds will go towards Endometriosis research and resources in Canada.
