Lindsay Singleton Spinal Surgery
On August 6, just shortly before kids went back to school, our family threw a back to school pool party with friends and family. Lindsay was stepping into the pool but slipped and fell directly on her tailbone. Not thinking much more of it than a hard fall and a bruised ego, she went about life as normal. That is, until about two weeks later and she started to develop dark, tender bruising and increased discomfort and pain while sitting or driving or any activity that required pressure on that area.
She reluctantly made an appointment where she was told she broke her tailbone and had a possible fractured sacrum (s-5, specifically). She was given a referral for a physiatrist but had to wait until the end of October to be seen. The symptoms and pain continued to worsen as she waited, so, by the time she met with him at the end of October, he suggested a cortisone shot to alleviate the pain while it healed. By this point she had an MRI, a couple CT scans, and too many X-rays to count on both hands; all to tell us what we already knew, she had a broken tailbone.
The second week of November was time for the cortisone shot and while she was on the table, the doctor pointed out a large gap between her tailbone and her spine and mentioned that the injury is worse that what originally believed and that a cortisone shot may not do the trick. Fast forward two weeks, during her follow up, she was told surgery was most likely needed and the injuries are more severe than they originally thought. She was given a referral to a neurosurgeon for the next plan of action.
On 12/7/23 it was decided that a full coccyectomy (full removal of tailbone from spine) was needed. She is scheduled for that surgery on January 10. The physician and hospital charges, out of pocket expenses, and now double deductibles, since surgery couldn’t be scheduled before the first of the year due to how far booked out they are, are really adding up and doing an unmanageable burden to their family. I know it’s during the holidays and times are tough for every family but any help we can give her and her family during this very difficult time would be so much appreciated.
