On the 28th of January my mother had a stroke on the right side of her brain. She actually seemed to be doing fairly well until halfway through Sunday when she was only mildly responsive. Things from there progressed to get worse for the first week, with a few days where she was completely unresponsive and was put on respirator to help her breathe. After that she slowly got better, was taken off the respirator, and had a mix of alertness depending on the day.
From there she started showing mild improvements, being able to move her right arm and wiggle her toes, but the left side remained unable to move and only felt mild sensation. She was unable to eat so a Gtube was put in to help give her nutrients. She is now able to swallow some pureed goods and ice chips with supervision from a nurse or speech therapist.
Her last day in the hospital was February 20th (over 3 weeks stay in the hospital). She is now in a nursing home rehabilitation center where she will start getting physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy everyday. The time she will need to be in here is unknown for certain but a month or more is likely.
After that the rehabilitation team there will tell us whether or not she should be able to go home or into a facility where she can have round the clock care.
This is going to be a long and expensive road for my parents and anything you can donate to help out with their medical bill and equipment costs would be appreciated more than you could know. And of course prayers and positive thoughts are always welcome.
