Why:

I would like to have a bake sale in honor of my mom Linda Wilma Gheshmi. 100% of the money would go to Poway Adult Day Health Care Center in her memory.  The bake sale will run until May 31, 2017.  This facility meant the world to our family while she attended from May 2016 to April 2017. About Linda:
My mother Linda was the most compassionate, caring, selfless, wonderful, thoughtful, sympathetic, empathetic, hardworking, and loving person I know.  She never stopped thinking of others and never stopped giving to those in need even with her dementia. She loved adult coloring, puzzles, Chinese food, prime rib, English muffins, cats, horses, flowers, cookbooks, food magazine, scarves, Mardi Gras beads, singing, listening to music, watching the Golf Channel and Rickie Fowler.

Linda was born in Catskill, New York on July 25, 1943 and passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 in La Mesa, CA at the age of 73 from complications due to Urosepsis, Diabetes and Dementia Lewy Bodies.

Our Story:
In March 2015 Tommy (my husband) and I realized my parents were getting older and needed more attention and care in their home.  So in September of 2015 we moved in to help my parents with daily activities, meals, chores and errands.  In May 2016 we realized my mom could no longer be left alone during the day as her dementia and mobility worsened.  Both Tommy and I have full-time jobs and could not quit our jobs nor could we afford a full-time facility for my mom.  Through a medical social workers' recommendation we were pointed to Poway ADHC for help.  This amazing program allowed both of us to keep our jobs.  I was able to drop my mom off at the center each weekday morning before heading to work.  They provided her with a safe, warm, happy, inviting, and caring environment.  They also serve breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snacks.  During the day they would have various social activities that included puzzles, adult coloring, bingo (her favorite), crafts, sing-a-longs, pet therapy, and other fun activities.  Weekdays at 4 pm I would pick her up, and during our car ride home she would tell me all about her day; what she ate and what she did with her friends.  As her dementia progressed the last several weeks she was not able to articulate as well about her daily activities but she always smiled and was happy to be there.  We are forever grateful for their amazing and wonderful staff who became family to us.
