Hello, thank you for stopping by. ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) has become the bane of my existence and a humble blessing. It is a disease that has no known cause and no known cure, but I remain hopeful that both of these will be solved soon.
My name is Linda and I am defiant in a good way. I know my business savvy and personal resilience is what keeps me going, long after the doctors had expected me to be gone. For 27 years I worked with my family operating a business, Creative Advertising and Printing in Arvada Colorado, that helped many other businesses in my community to grow. I was so grateful to be able to work side by side with my family and teach both of my daughters to be successful entrepreneurs. I did my part to save and invest for my retirement, but getting sick has been taking its toll not only on my resources, but on all of my family for the past 8 years. I am one of the lucky ones that has lived beyond the two year prognosis. I do feel so fortunate and grateful for each day.

Over the course of the last 8 years I have lost the ability to hold my head up, scratch my nose, or wipe away a tear. I have struggled to breathe and came close to suffocating several times before getting a tracheostomy and now I am living on a ventilator. I have lost my voice and my ability to whistle tunes. (I loved to whistle.) But, I continue to show up and try each day. I have found new ways to communicate and discovered a level of patience I never knew I had. Even though my body is not responding the same way, I am still here. ALS has taught me the value of relationships and not taking things for granted. It continues to be a profound teacher for me.
With compassion, I know this year has been hard on many people. My savings have depleted and I now have come to the point where I must ask for some assistance to help with my care. I was a strong pillar in my community for over 27 years, helping many businesses and families to grow. I was a member of the Kiwanis Club for 18 years and even became the President of the Arvada Chamber of Commerce. I was the one people came to for help, not the one to ask it of others.
I have been trying to not come to this point by selling my things on eBay, Craigslist and Facebook market place for several years now to offset some of my expenses. Here is the link to the store if you would like to support in this way. https://www.ebay.com/usr/the_savvy_artist
I want you to know that whatever you're able to offer, no matter how small, will be received with gratitude.
Your support will help me to remain living in my own home, which requires full time, trained caregivers to help me do the things that only a few years ago I was able to do myself. I am very grateful for their help at this time, because my family has felt the ongoing stress of no longer having a normal life with me. I am in a wheelchair and use a lift to transfer from bed to the chair and back again.
Unfortunately Medicare and my Supplemental Insurance offer very little assistance with the cost of caregivers and equipment. The monthly cost for my care team and supplies is over $10,000. My goal is to raise $120,000 that will cover the cost of my at home care and equipment for 1 year. I will continue to do my part as well. The entrepreneur in me is persistent.
I am humbled, big time, to ask for help like this. I wish I could put together a fabulous video using my creative skills, but I can't anymore. But I am still here and I am trying to live as fully as possible, while sharing time with my family. If you can help me to continue to do so, you would make a difference in my life. I mean, that is all any of us can ask I guess, to be able to say that we were able to improve the life of someone.
You definitely have a chance to help improve my life now.
Can I ask for your assistance to ease the stress on me and my family?
Thank you,
Linda and Family
