On the evening of July 14th, Linda was out with some friends when she experienced a piercing, sharp pain in her head that moved down to her neck and shoulders. She described it as the worst pain she's ever felt. An ambulance rushed her to the hospital and after scans in the ER, the doctors found a brain bleed. Linda had a ruptured aneurysm in the anterior communicating artery on the top of her brain. She needed a drain put in to relieve the pressure on her brain and then a craniotomy to clip the leaking vessel. She had a successful six hour surgery and spent the next 21 days in the neuro ICU at Florida Hospital. She had wonderful doctors and nurses that monitored her 24/7. It was a long, long 3 weeks for Linda and our family. Fortunately, Linda progressed so much during those three weeks and was moved to the neuro step down unit. She was there for one week where she was monitored and received physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Since she was doing well physically and medically, she was discharged on August 10th to go home with a script to start outpatient speech and cognitive therapy. Linda is still very confused and disoriented. With a brain bleed, it's common to lose and not retain memories. She still doesn't believe that she had brain surgery and will likely never remember her stay in the hospital. She was recently evaluated for the outpatient therapy and she'll need about 12 weeks of therapy (3-4 times a week) to improve her cognition and processing skills. We are hoping that the therapy and lots of rest will help get her back to her spunky, feisty self.
We are so thankful for the support, prayers, and love our family has received the last few weeks. (Please keep praying!) Many have asked us if there is a way to help support our mom as she recovers, especially now that the hospital bills are starting to come in. While we are so grateful for insurance, our mom is on a high-deductible plan so any gifts towards paying that would be a HUGE help and blessing. We thought a GoFundMe would be the best option.
Also, wanted to share that our mom has her phone and is reading messages and comments but likely won't respond. Or if she does, it may not make sense. Please understand that she's still mentally recovering from her traumatic brain injury and it's going to take some time to get her back to herself. If you would like to visit our Mom, please send a message to either Carissa or Michelle beforehand. Thank you all for your support!
Thank you so much,
Carissa and Michelle (Linda's daughters)
