My grandmother adopted my brother and I and has been our primary caretaker all our lives. She devoted herself to our health and well being, and made sure we had everything we needed--in her words "from soup to nuts." She took me to dance on multiple buses in cold New England winters. She made sure I had everything, while many years not buying herself a coat or necessities. She showered us in love and affection, and even saw several of my performances in New York, until her late seventies. She is my hero.
She has been in and out of the hospital this past year and the strain on all of us has been tremendous. I have been her health care proxy and been in charge of her livelihood these years, since her partner of thirty years and my adoptive father passed from cancer in 2016.
We have financial needs surrounding her burial costs, as well as some transition challenges for my younger brother, who is an adult living with Autism. Anything will help, as we begin to plan for his life ahead, especially given that we are losing some of the income that we have to pay his rent and expenses.
This is a challenging time for everyone, which is why crowdfunding is so helpful--we appreciate your contribution as we navigate this difficult time, and we keep you and your loved ones in our prayers as well.
