As most of you already know my mom Linda (Roblez) Mutchler was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) about 5 years ago. You can image what this type of news did to our family. Our once strong and independent mother and wife would eventually succumb to this fatal disease. The hard part for me wasn’t knowing that she would eventually die from this disease, because we will all meet this fate in the end. The hard part was watching her struggle daily to do the things that we take for granted. For the next 5 years, my mom was led to believe that she was dying. Waking up every day to find that her muscles were weakening and wasting away. The simplest things like talking, smiling, eating, and even swallowing became hard for her. Even through all of this, her faith in God continued to grow stronger.

A couple of months ago, my mom saw this facility in Miami that specializes in ALS patients. Body Science’s approach to healthcare is through Functional Medicine, where they take a holistic approach. The aim is to repair the cell damage done to the body by disease. Instead of just addressing the symptoms of a disease, they focus on identifying and addressing the root causes of the disease. So, my mom did the labs required at home about a month ago, packed up and left for Miami on April 14, 2023, where they will be for 3 weeks. On their first day at the treatment facility and my mom and dad were given life-changing news. She had Lyme Disease (Borrelia Burgdorferi). Lyme disease is also called the “Great Imitator” of other neurological diseases including ALS. I can’t tell you how happy we were to hear that she had Lyme Disease. Because that meant that this is probably the cause of EVERYTHING that she is going through associated with ALS.

The reason I’m writing this is that everyone asks how they can help. Well, I found a way that you can help.

Unfortunately, insurance is not paying for any of this. This is out of pocket and is very costly. My mom is going to have to go back in 4-5 weeks to continue treatment for Lyme Disease. She also will have to go again in another 6 months.
