Help Linda Miller Recover From Severe Brain Injury

Donation protected
UPDATE:
We are so overwhelmed with gratitude for all of you who have helped us reach our initial goal today. Many of you have asked if you can still give past this goal. Yes, please do if you feel inclined. Additional donations will go directly to Dad and help with all of the additional costs incurred (gas, food, car repair from months of travel and future unforeseen expenses etc..) from the past 5 months and months ahead as he continues to move toward full-time care for my mom as she recovers. Thank you all, sincerely, we are blessed beyond measure in this difficult time.

As some of you already know, on July 30th, Dad came into their cabin to find Mom lying on the floor after a fall down their wooden stairs, unresponsive but breathing. She was airlifted from Newport, TN to UT Hospital and was diagnosed with a Severe Traumatic Brain Injury in a full state of coma. After many of the staff telling us that she wouldn’t make it, on day 4 she opened her eyes. She remained intubated on breathing support and feeding tubes, as well as brain pressure monitors, for weeks.

We cried, we prayed, we spent hours and hours thinking and questioning, and ultimately we were carried by the strength of God and the peace only he can bring, that was felt through the prayer of so many family and friends.

This began a long process of very slow recovery over the past 5 months. It has very much felt as if it is a one step forward and then two steps backward situation, which included an operation to put a shunt in Mom’s brain in order to drain fluid correctly.

She has been in a rehabilitation center after leaving the hospital and has made progress to being partly aware of things, sounds, and people around her, as well as intermittently talking and responding to questions and eating solid foods at mealtimes. Her speech therapist and physical therapy team all have given good reports on her progress but she is still very much in need of around the clock care as her brain tries to regain function.

Unfortunately, we were told this week that she has about two weeks left on her insurance to stay in rehabilitation and that any additional time would be out of pocket at a fee of $10,000 per month.

With the insurance news, you can imagine, this adds an unbearable amount of stress and overwhelming complexities to race the clock before Mom is asked to leave her facility.

I’m sharing this page in the hopes that you might be able to help us put funds together to pay for an additional month of her care at the facility so that we can prepare a place for mom to come home to that will suit her full time care needs and give us enough time to get the equipment needed to accommodate this shift.

Anyone who has been in any close proximity to Mom knows the joy and love she continually radiates. She has such a giving heart and has spent years taking care of her brothers and mother through their years of disabilities and illnesses. Now she needs our help!

Anything you can give to help us reach this goal will be a blessing to our family through this tragedy. Additionally, please share with everyone you know so we can give mom the best fighting chance to continue her recovery.

Through all of this, we stay steadfast in prayer and in trust that God is guiding us every step of the way and knows exactly what we need.

I’ve Set the goal at $10,500 to cover the transaction fees that GoFundMe takes.

God Bless,
The Miller Family
