Our Journey with Motor Neurone Disease
My husband, John, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in November 2024. Our whole world came crashing down around us.
John first noticed at the end of 2023 that something wasn’t quite right with his hand. Tasks that had once been effortless were becoming more and more difficult. What started as mild weakness soon began to affect his grip, and gradually, everyday activities became a challenge.
MND is relentless. It doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed — it impacts the entire family. As John’s condition progresses, we find ourselves facing a reality we never imagined. Every day brings new challenges: from physical changes that limit independence to the emotional and financial pressures of adapting our home, routines, and future.
Despite everything, John continues to face each day with courage, humour, and determination. He has always been someone who helps others — a loving husband, father, and friend who puts everyone before himself. Watching someone you love lose their strength while never losing their spirit is both heartbreaking and inspiring.
We are determined to make the time we have together as meaningful and comfortable as possible. However, the costs of care, equipment, and home adaptations quickly add up. Funds raised through this page will go towards:
Essential mobility and accessibility equipment to support John’s independence
Home adaptations to make everyday life safer and easier
Specialist care and therapies to maintain comfort and quality of life
Travel costs for appointments and hospital visits
And, most importantly, giving us the ability to spend precious time together without the constant stress of financial strain
Motor Neurone Disease may take away movement, but it cannot take away love, hope, or the will to keep fighting.
We are so grateful for any contribution, no matter how small. Your kindness, generosity, and messages of support mean more to us than words can express.
Thank you for reading our story and for helping us on this journey.
