LINCOLN RFC U15s - ARMISTICE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH RUGBY FESTIVAL – FRANCE OCTOBER 2023

We are fund raising in order to attend this Festival. As well as giving us the opportunity to play teams from across Europe, this international collaboration with the Federation of French Rugby focuses on remembering the fallen from WWI and WWII.

The host club, Compiegne, is set in the heart of the battlefields and is also the site where the Armistices of 1918 and 1940 were signed. As well as visiting these, players are encouraged to research people from our club who lost their lives in the conflicts and commemorate them at a remembrance service.

We have already been busy fund raising. We were given the opportunity of bag packing at Iceland Supermarket at Christmas and were invited back for a third day due to our manner with the customers and success in clearing the queues. We ran a sweets and cake store at the Club Fireworks night and have a number of other initiatives.

Harnessing our competitive nature, we are planning a sponsored walk/run/cycle to represent the journey of 388 miles to Compiegne. We will set individual challenges to ensure the whole team can compete in their own race and aim to do either a 5k run/cycle or 10,000 steps a day over a set period.

Grass roots rugby is inclusive for all, regardless of background and in order to make the Tour accessible, we are aiming to cover the cost for each player so that finance is not a barrier. As a team we are known for being ‘one in, all in’. This will be the last year of Junior Rugby for us as a team. Some of us have played together since U6s, but we have welcomed new players of any ability as they have joined. Our strength lies in our team spirit, which is often commented upon, in addition to being a competitive squad.

Amazingly, nine players were selected for the Leicester Tigers Training Academy this season. We have strong links with the Tigers and Freddie Tuillagi through his Tuillagi Rugby Skills Camps.

Compiegne Rugby Club is a feeder club for Stade Francais. The event has previously been attended by high profile figures from the world of rugby and sport.

We estimate it will cost approximately £700 per player for transport/kit/tour fees
