Hi, this page has been set up on behalf of the
Lime Tree Walk Preservation Society.
The beautiful Lime Walk has been a footpath for centuries, visible on many maps and drawings. Originally a peripheral avenue to Berkhamsted Place and Parkland from the direction of the town centre and Castle.
A Non-Designated Heritage statement, written by Jenny Thorburn, has been submitted to encourage further protection of this popular pedestrian footpath and chalk wildlife corridor.
Lime Walk Green, at the bottom of the walk on Castle Hill Avenue, is cherished by residents and locals as an amenity area, as well as a meeting and resting point for leisure activities from people arriving out of area, for the countryside.
We are fundraising to improve the upkeep of the lime trees and re-establish the variety of planting throughout the seasons to sustain the wildlife. We would also like to produce an information point on the route recognising its origin, names and function within the town between the historical sites.
