On Saturday, my little sister Lily (19 yo) was involved in a car accident in Greenville, Ohio. She was a passenger and was ejected from the vehicle, suffering multiple major injuries including a shattered pelvis, spinal injury, broken ribs, collarbone, femur, humerus, trauma to her lungs including contusions and bleeding, and internal bleeding around her liver, spleen, and bladder. Lily also has severe road rash and will need skin grafts. As her recovery continues, more trauma is showing in other areas of her body that we won’t detail here. Despite all this, she is awake and able to communicate, with no brain injuries—a true miracle in such a traumatic situation.

Lily has already undergone emergency surgeries for her femur, back, and pelvis within the first two days of being in the ICU. She has also been receiving respiratory therapy for her lungs and has required several blood transfusions. Next, she will have surgeries for her humerus, collarbone, and skin grafts. The recovery process will be long and challenging, requiring her to stay in the ICU while my parents remain by her side day and night. Both have had to take time off work, which has already created significant financial strain due to lost income and the costs of traveling back and forth to the hospital.

Lily is the most bubbly but soft spoken, kind-hearted person you could meet. She brings sunshine and happiness wherever she goes, always brightening the room with her humor and warmth. She’s the sweetest soul, and everyone who knows her loves her dearly. We’re hopeful for her full recovery and want to give her the support she needs to heal and look back on this time knowing she was surrounded by love.
