Lily started rowing gigs with Poole Gig Rowing Club a few years ago and can be found on dark nights during the winter and sunny summer evenings rowing hard with her Junior crew mates on Poole Harbour.

She loves being out on the water and the easy chat and laughs with the others. She puts all she can into the regattas she has attended during summer seasons, not only in the Dorset Jurassic League but also at the Nationals in Devon representing Dorset, and loves the fun outings like rowing around or even to Brownsea Island for afternoon tea!

She also sails dinghies, and again, just loves being on the water and working out how to get the best out of the boat. She has gained more experience and confidence by sailing more regularly at a local sailing club on Poole Harbour over the last few years and now really enjoys just messing about in boats with her sailing buddies.

Very excitingly, Lily has been asked to join the GB crew for the Atlantic Challenge. This will be an 8 day event in Denmark in August 2026. The boats are 38’ and are rowing and sailing boats requiring 10-12 crew plus a coxswain. Some of the challenges are rowing, some sailing, some navigation and ropework; testing seamanship and teamwork. The crew will come from all over the UK and will undertake a training week in July ‘25 in Dorset to get to know eachother and work on becoming a team, to eventually compete against some of the 13 other countries who also have these very special boats.

Of course, there is a cost for the organisation, the training, getting the boat to Denmark, the travel and accommodation for starters!

The starting point is £2,500, and we have lots of ideas of how you could support Lily on her quest to get to Denmark, through events or donations either via this page or direct into a special high interest bank account to avoid funding page fees - so that every penny goes towards the Challenge itself.
