Lily Strong: Her Path to Walking Again!

Lily is a bright, vibrant, and fierce 10-year-old girl! She has been on a 6-year recovery journey from sustaining an anoxic brain injury at the age of 4.5 years old. She lost her ability to walk, talk, and eat independently due to the 46-minute cardiac arrest that led to her anoxic brain injury.
Lily has had 2 treatments (2023 & 2024) in Monterey, Mexico that have been life-changing! The difficult part is that the treatment is not covered by insurance, expensive, and is in a different country for a month’s time! $35,000 to be exact, and this is just for the treatment; not including the daily living expenses. But all in all, we would do anything to help get our girl back her independence!
Here are all of the accomplishments she has made due to these treatments:
- Removal of all prescription medicine
- Improved sleep
- Huge reduction in muscle spasticity without medicine
- Sitting on the couch with little to no support
- Sliding herself off the couch to the floor
- Activating her muscles with verbal commands
- Comprehension continuing to increase
- Improvement in using her eye-gaze communication system
- Activation of her voice to communicate “yes” and “no”
- Standing with less and less support
- Rolling on the ground with little assistance
- Ability to open and close her hands/fingers some
- Reduction in crying due to songs and frustrations
She fights every day to get better and try to gain back the skills she lost! Her therapists, family, and friends have seen the changes in her, and we are hopeful that a 3rd treatment will get her walking independently!
All we want is for our girl to be happy, healthy, and as independent as possible! She works so hard and this recovery journey has been long and difficult at times. She deserves to be a carefree kid again!
