Lily Morris Medical Bills

Donation protected
My name is Meredith Morris, and I'm fundraising for my youngest daughter, Lily. Lily was born on June 17, 2021. In November of that same year, at barely five months old, Lily suffered injuries at the hands of someone outside of the home. On the day that I picked Lily up, it was evident that something was not right. I was notified upon pickup that she had been crying for hours but was never notified or asked to come to pick her up. Within minutes, I took Lily to the Walk-In Clinic, ignorant of the severity of her injuries. Upon examination, the nurse immediately recognized that Lily's left femur bone was poking out, creating a bulging effect. An X-Ray revealed a complete spiral femoral fracture of her left femur. We were whisked away by ambulance to our local ER, where her injuries were confirmed. Shortly after, we took another ambulance ride an hour away to LSU Ochsner, where the emergency staff and pediatric orthopedist were waiting for us. The ride was bumpy, and I could feel her bone moving in her leg with every bump. We stayed in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for four days. In those four days, we learned that Lily had multiple other fractures--her ankle, wrists, and two ribs.

We were finally released after three nights of sleeping on the hospital floor next to Lily's crib. We were interviewed multiple times by DCFS before they released us to go home. DCFS did several at-home visits and visits to the establishment where we believe the incident occurred. DCFScleared us to have our baby in the home with us, stating that it was not their belief this incident happened inside the home.

Today, Lily is a typical, happy, walking toddler. She has balance issues that may be related to her injuries, but more diagnostic testing is required to confirm this.

I am starting this fundraiser because of medical expenses incurred by this nightmare incident. Lily's father and I took significant time off work to be with her and take her to follow-ups, orthopedic specialists, and multiple other doctor's offices. During this time, medical bills started rolling in, and we have not yet been able to catch up with them. They are in the back of my mind daily, and we've been receiving bill collection calls and notices to remind us.

We are so thankful that our sweet baby is still with us, and this incident was not as bad as it could have been. We are fortunate that long-term effects are limited, and she has fully recovered.

If you've made it this far, our family would like to thank you for taking the time to read our story. If you feel compelled to donate, everything will be used to benefit Lily's medical expenses. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any consideration in donating to Lily's expenses.

The following are some pictures from the ordeal:

At the walk-in clinic-before x-ray. She was so exhausted from crying all day that she just couldn't keep her eyes open. Left femur, swollen in photo.

This photo was taken on the first day in the PICU, after her leg had been set with a splint, and one wrist restrained. She managed to continuously wiggle out of her arm splints.

This was one of the MANY x-rays Lily received. This one particular of her left femur:
