Help Shahd's Family Escape Gaza!

Call to Action
UPDATE: Shahd and her whole family have safely arrived in Egypt, after a long process of obtaining permits through the Egyptian travel company. Shahd’s family consists of herself, two brothers, one sister, and her mother. Once in Egypt, her mother will no longer be able to receive her salary and they will have many expenses including rent, food, clothes, and other basic necessities that they will not be able to take with them.

Why did they leave?
Shahd, a 22 year old freelance journalist and English Literature university student, has been consistently writing features describing the experiences of herself, her family, and her community as the intensity of Israel’s attack worsens over the past 115 days. Her brother is also a writer for We Are Not Numbers (WANN), an online publication that seeks to humanize Palestinians that live under Israeli occupation.

Journalists have become direct targets of Israel’s army. As of today, more than 117 journalists have been killed and many have been forced to leave for fear of their own safety. Shahd is one journalist who was able to escape and survive. She now seeks to continue her studies and work in Egypt, amplifying the Palestinian voice.

What if there's a ceasefire? Can they stay?
According to Shahd, “ceasefire does not necessarily mean a return to a quarter of human life. We will return without electricity, water and sanitation networks, homes, streets, hospitals, schools, universities, private employment institutions and kindergartens. Those who are not destined to die, will be an individual in a society psychologically devastated and surrounded by tens of thousands of amputees, disfigured people, orphans, widows, and post-displacement social problems. The wars to come with life are the real wars and they are the challenge that we will not live to see the end of. We have fallen from a very high altitude. It was a systematic and successful war of extermination.”

How can I help?
Please consider sponsoring this family in their new life in Egypt. It breaks our hearts to see another Palestinian family displaced, and we would wish anything for them to be able to stay in their home in Rafah. Unfortunately, the Israeli army has made that option unattainable. We can give them this fresh start - please donate as much as you can, today.
