Lilly is a fighter, one year later!

We are an extremely close family. On December 22nd, our holiday season went from cheerful anticipation of family gatherings around fire pits and chimneys to somber gatherings filled with tears in a freezing cold hospital lobby and a lonely icu room, where we could only see Lilly for no more than 1 hour per day.

Lilly was coming home from picking up milk for her baby girl, who also just recovered from RSV after spending 2 weeks in a NICU, when her car was struck by a Metro Rail Train. It is a complete miracle that Lilly, survived this horrific accident, but her and her family have an extremely long road ahead of them. So far, Lilly has had 3 major surgeries due to the extent of her injuries which include; internal bleeding, multiple fractures, including in her spine, brain bleeds and hematomas. We still do not know what other treatments lie ahead, but she is currently in an icu on a ventilator.

Lilly is a preschool teacher, she loves her job and loves helping kids. She is a mom to 5 beautiful children, her 2 youngest baby girls are 1 and 2, and we are shattered because their Mama can not be there with them. Her 3 oldest kids, her cousins, brothers and sisters have been spending endless days sitting in the hospital lobby just to feel close to her. Her husband, Derrick, has had to keep it together for their babies, caring for them and making arrangements with family so that he can step away from them and spend time with Lilly.

We do not want money to be a concern for Derrick or Lilly (once she gets better) we want them to focus on her recovery and to take all the time she needs to heal. We hope this fundraiser will be a silver lining for them during this tragic time.
