Passing of Lillian Howard - October 30th, 2021.

Dear friends and family of Lillian,

Lillian was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, aunty, sister, cousin, friend and community leader.

You may know Lillian, from her work in community. Lillian advocated for Indigenous, social and environmental causes. Lillian was a co-chair for the Urban Indigenous Peoples Advisory Committee for the City of Vancouver and also sat on the Indigenous Advisory Committee for the Vancouver Police Department. She was a member of the Butterflies in Spirit dance group which raises awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women/Girls and Men/Boys. Lillian was also the founder of the Uplifting Indigenous Families Fund which raises funds to assist families during and after the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. She worked part-time at Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) with the Indigenous Health team. In addition, Lillian volunteered with the Douglas College Aboriginal Advisory Committee, West Coast LEAF Aboriginal Advisory Committee and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Indigenous Council. During her summers, Lillian loved participating in the Pacific Northwest Canoe Journey. She was a pillar of the community and will be missed immensely.

Lillian’s family has started a funeral fundraiser to help cover the cost of her funeral expenses. Family and friends were not prepared for the high cost of a funeral, and during this difficult time we are reaching out to the community for help. The funds will also go towards rent, utilities and bills.
Please consider donating if you can, as any amount will truly help. It would mean a lot if you could share Lillian’s funeral  fundraiser with others who knew her.

Klecko Klecko, thank-you, so much for your consideration and support for the family.

A personal message from the Eldest daughter

Hello, my name is Celeste Howard, I am the eldest daughter of Lillian Howard, we are from the Nuu-Chah-Nulth Nation. We are very devastated to share our mom passed away on October 30, 2021. She was in the ICU for three weeks im Vancouver at St Pauls Hospital.

Our mother leaves two daughters, two grand daughters and three great grand daughters.
She also leaves her father Barney Howard Sr and three brothers and three sisters, and so many nieces and nephews, and many relatives and countless friends.

Our mother was so caring and giving to the community and many organizations. She was truly a strong Aboriginal advocate, a strong Nuu-Chah-Nulth Woman, a beautiful and memorable Mowachaht/Muchlaht women. She had a few jobs at a time working from home during Covid, Her illness was not covid. The doctors did many tests and did all that they could. She was treated very well at St. Pauls hospital.

This page is to help our family with funeral expenses and cremation expenses and venue and food expenses for the services, as well as for rent, utilities and bills. There are more expenses that will arise as the days pass. Because of Covid, the funeral will be approximately November 9th, 2021,... 12 days before her 71st birthday.

We love and appreciate you all.

With a heavy heart, thank you and take care and be safe
