Our beloved and badass friend and comrade Lill Prosperino passed away on june 19th in clairton, pa at the age of 34.
This fundraiser is a joint effort of over 25 of Lills friends and comrades to further immortalize their legacy.
Lill is one of the most consequential organizers to come out of Central Appalachia in our life times. They were an unrelenting force of compassion and rage in the fight for dignity of all people - not only in the region but nationally. Although lill is recognized nationally for their work - they went the hardest for appalachian mountain people. not one to ever give up- they stayed in the mountains and community they loved and fought successfully to improve conditions and battle stigma. They gained national recognition as a dedicated and down as hell harm reduction advocate and educator. Lill is also known for their work in community defense, direct services, anti racism, herbal medicine and so many other things. They truly lived and breathed their commitment to community care.
Lills impact will never cease as they live on through the hundreds of people they have brought into the work. we are all now apart of a rich organizing lineage and many of us, in this time, find ourselves doubling down on our commitments to uphold the lessons we learned from lill.
This memorial fund will be used to:
-Start up a scholarship fund in their name that will assist Appalachian youth activists who are continuing in the spirit of lills organizing legacy
-build 2 permanent memorials so that lills communities all have a close enough physical space to honor them at - one in eastern kentucky and one in west virginia
-create a documentary about their life and impact
funds will be, roughly, used as followed
-2k for each memorial (4k total)
-4k for documentary
-14k to start scholarship fund
This gofundme is being managed by 3 of lills close friends who are reporting back to the larger group who is committed to this project.
We will be adding updates here as we progress with the memorials.
