My name is Lilith, and I am a musician, YouTube content creator and streamer from London, UK.
I also happen to be trans.
I suffer with a condition called gender dysphoria, where my assigned gender at birth does not line up with who I actually am. I have been on hormones for over 6 years now, and while these have made me feel more like myself, there is only so much they can do.
Not only do I have to pay for half of my hormones myself, as in my country the national health service does not help with certain hormones (see: progesterone), but the service also cannot help with some other critical life affirming and life saving surgeries.
Trans people are more likely to be physically and verbaly attacked, assaulted and targeted in public, especially when also not seen as heterosexual, such as myself. I have a lot of anxiety around leaving the house, and do not do so very often. I have been subject to both phsyical and verbal abuse in my real life, on public transport, in the street, in the shopping centre etc.
In addition, as a Youtuber with a small following (27k subs) of which I am extremely grateful for, I also attract a hell of a lot of negative attention, with albums of screenshots on my Facebook of the large amounts of transphobic comments I receive every single day online.
I have so far not been massively vocal online about my trans status, but have also not kept this hidden as it is not something I am ashamed of.
The surgeries I am looking to save up for will help me be less visible as a trans person, and while I am not ashamed or embarrassed to be trans, to be able to choose when and where I am visible will have an extraordinarily positive impact on my day to day life, both IRL and online.
I also suffer with a lot of mental health and fatigue issues, leaving me bedridden a solid 5 out of 7 days of the week. This on top of lockdown means I am unable to really save up any amount of money that would have a signifcant impact on such expensive procedures.
I have had some consultations with certain surgeons, but these were another 10k on top of what I am fundraising for, so I have decided to look elsewhere. I am currently talking to a much cheaper surgeon, and waiting to find out the exact figures (including hospital fees, accomodation, and travel) for the procedures recommended to me.
It's important for me to note that I am not under any false pretense that this is a small ask, I do not think I will reach this target, but as it is my birthday this month and I have been putting this off for 2 years, I thought that now is as good a time as any to open this GoFundMe.
I do not expect anyone to donate, especially if it will put you in any position where things are more difficult for you financially. If you cannot donate, I would absolutely appreciate a share of this page, and if you can, be it £1 or £10, I will be forever grateful.
