Hi, my name is Kelsey and I am raising money for the expenses of my daughter's upcoming thumb surgery.
Liliana was born with VACTERL association, and has thumb hypoplasia in both hands and left arm radial dysplasia as a result of this. Two years ago she had surgery to fuse a bone in her left thumb to help stabilize and prevent future injury. Her care team has now decided it is time to perform surgery on her right thumb as well. During this operation they will be removing a tendon from her right ring finger and adding it into her right thumb to help strengthen it and aid with the fatigue she experiences when writing and coloring.
We knew this surgery was going to be a possibility, however we were not anticipating her needing it so soon, since it had been a few years since her doctor had last mentioned it. This is coming at a very hard time for our family financially, so we are asking for help from generous individuals to aid in paying for the following:
- Travel expenses to and from Eastern WA to Seattle Children's Hospital for the surgery and 3 follow-up appointments
- Clothing to fit over a full arm cast
- Additional adaptive clothing for easy dressing during recovery
- Adaptive school supplies
- Occupational therapy supplies
- Bedding for new bed (her current bed has to be swapped out because it is a loft style and she will be unable to climb)
Because Lily is right handed and has such limited strength and mobility in her left arm and hand, the post-op period will present many new challenges. Her entire right arm and hand will be plaster casted for several weeks after her surgery, followed by a series of hand braces. Our dream is to set her up for a successful school year as she navigates these challenges.
Surgery Date: August 29th, 2022
Liliana's 6th Birthday: August 31st
First Day of 1st Grade: August 31st
"Thank you for taking care of me!"
-Liliana
