Brave firefighters were able to save 3 out of the 4 structures on the property, but about 250 avocado trees were destroyed, which represents a significant portion of my family’s livelihood and source of income. The lost income from losing the avocado grove is not covered by insurance. The water infrastructure and irrigation system also melted completely. Our insurance company has informed us this that NONE of these damages will be covered.
Right now, my mom is pretty overwhelmed with everything so I am trying to help by posting this to raise money to help her and the farm with its repair and rebuilding costs.
12/19 Update: Thanks to all your kind and generous donations, my mom was able to fix the water meter infrastructure (including all the valves, pressure regulator etc.) which had melted completely. She is very grateful to have running water! They are now in the process of fixing the irrigation to hopefully save any partially burned trees. The irrigation materials and associated labor to repair it, cutting down burned trees and pruning damaged trees will cost approximately $5-$8K and is not covered by insurance. The most significant loss will be that of this years’ harvest and the lost production for the several years (replanting new trees takes years before they bear fruit). Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
