My name is Maryangee and I'm Abel's Aunt. I have known this kid since I can remember. Let me tell you a few things about him. He graduated from Bravo Medical Magnet High School and is now attending Santa Monica College. He choose to go to Santa Monica College in order to stay close to home and to lessen the burden of college expenses on his parents. His older brother takes him when he can but for the most part Abel takes public transportation to and from school.
Although shy at times, he is a kind and loving young man. He is a hard working boy and never gives up on what he sets his mind to. He loves sports (football, basketball, soccer and baseball) and chocolate more then anything in life. For those of you that have the opportunity to know Abel personally, know about his great sense of humor even in the worst. Yesterday on his way home, while running to catch the bus, he took a really bad fall. He hit the floor and in his words "Tia, I heard a crack immediately followed by excruciating pain." He was rushed to the hospital where the x-ray showed a broken Femur. Even though he was in pain that only heavy medication could numb, his biggest worry was his how his parents and grandmother where. The next thing he said to me with tears streaming down he big cheeks was "How much is all this gonna cost my mom and dad." The bills that would come from this terrible accident was his biggest worry.
He had surgery last night at around midnight. The Doctor explained how he would have pins inserted into his bone to hold the broken femur together so that it would have a chance to heal and set properly. Abel woke up in a very positive mood but very thirsty and hungry. Glad to have some soup and jello, he said "Man they really like to tease you here, I thought the packet of tea were crackers". I know what he really wants it a fat burger with a side of fries.
Our family is thankful for what we have and humbled by how everything has worked in Abel's favor to a speedy recovery. We understand that this could have been so much worse and grateful that it wasn't. We are blessed and know that God was watching over him.
As you all know hospital bills are expensive and sometimes we all need a little extra help. We are reaching out to all of you in this time of need. The insurance Abel has will not cover all the expenses and the family cannot afford the high bills.
Our family will forever be grateful for any help our friends and family can offer. Our prayers are that what ever you give may be multiplied over and over again. Thank you all for your love and support to the Rodriguez Family.
