Hey Pals! It's me Jason Stuart!
I have been a actor, comedian, writer, and activist for over 40 years. You may have seen me recently with John Lithgow & Alfred Molina in "Love is Strange", in Sean Baker's "Tangerine", or the critically acclaimed Sundance favorite, "The Birth Of A Nation". You may also be familiar with my thirty year stand-up comedy career, with appearances on Showtime, Comedy Central, Here TV , and Logo, among others.
As you can see, I have a drive to be creative, and to work with talented like-minded folks on projects that really reflect myself, and my philosophies in life. A few years ago I acted & directed MENTOR, a comedy / drama web series based on my mentor relationships with 20 somethings giving back to the community. But As it turned out they mentored me! With a lot of help from my friends and fans this award winning series was made possible.
Now its been 5 years since my Dad has passed. I'd like to bring to life in his memory, LIKE FATHER; a story about fathers and sons telling their truths. I did a reading of this short at the Writer's Guild of America, and once I realized how positive the response was; I had to chat with the screenwriters to see if they would let me open it up, and make into a film.
Being a part of this film and supporting my vision for it means creating a world where a Jewish, Gay, Middle-Aged, bald man has a voice, and can share that vision and wisdom with the larger world.
It's time in this moment in history with all we are facing, to speak out strongly with our stories from diverse voices. This film is about truth, love and the reality of a Father/Son relationship that will create dialog around how we can deepen our ties with our parents. And lastly, to learn to forgive them by admitting and embracing that we are all just people trying to survive in this not so perfect world.
