Light up the Path for Michelle Simmons

My brilliant friend Michelle has been going through a lifetime of hardships during this pandemic. My name is Jessie Huish and I have the privilege to know and love Michelle like a sister. I am asking for community support to get her enough money to help her to find a more comfortable place along her path.

Once you meet Michelle, you become a part of her family. She is welcoming and wonderful and full of giggles. Michelle is a school teacher and freely gives her time and attention to the children who are lucky enough to be in her care. She is so full of light and goodness, and it has been amazing to witness her go through times of great hardship. She has continued to smile, dance, sing and laugh her way through it all.

Just a few years back we had an earthquake that shook the bricks right off Michelle's house. Michelle has since been living on a construction site and her family of three have all been tucked in tight as ticks into one small room. Luckily enough, Michelle received federal relief money, that helped begin the construction, but the funds have all dried up, and the house remains at a stand-still.

Just over a year ago, Michelle received a medical diagnosis that had her in and out of the hospital -running labs and tests and difficult procedures for the better part of the year. For someone who had received news that was most certainly life-changing and severe, Michelle saw it as a blessing. "I am so lucky, I will make it through this just fine," she shared with her closest friends, as we hid away our frightened tears.

Last week Michelle received the news that her mother had passed away, and still she carried a smile. She did not skip a single day of teaching and this last week she has been especially radiant and full of light. Michelle plans to head to her mother's home to take care of all of her belongings. Michelle is hoping to be able to bring a few special pieces of her mother's home, back across the country, to keep in her own home. It is this small and humble request, that opened my heart. This is one thing we can offer help with.

But Michelle needs more. Let us take a turn to light up her path. She has given so much love to all of us and I wonder if we can all take a moment to give a little back. Just a small donation, to lighten the heart of a truly remarkable woman.

Michelle needs money to help finish her home. She needs help paying off a mountain of hospital bills. And Michelle needs help getting back home to help take care of her mother's estate.
