Quesnel's local dog park is my dog's favourite place. It's one of the few places where she can be off-leash and truly enjoy her time outdoors. Unfortunately, as the days grow shorter during the winter, the absence of proper lighting makes the park unsafe after dark and drastically limits the time we can spend there.
Currently, many dogs have been hurt in the poor visibility conditions, stumbling over rough terrain or getting into unwarranted scuffles that could have been avoided with better lighting. This isn't just a personal issue; it affects every pet owner in Quesnel who loves spending time at the park after work hours.
The need for lighting is critical not only for the safety of our pets but also for the community members who rely on this recreational space for their well-being and socialization. Installing lights would increase park usage, provide safer conditions, and foster a sense of community among pet owners.
We propose the installation of adequate lighting solutions that efficiently illuminate the park while considering environmental impacts. Solar-powered LED lights are both cost-effective and environmentally friendly options that could meet these requirements.
The city of Quesnel has a responsibility to ensure public spaces are safe and accessible for everyone, including our beloved pets. We urge local authorities to prioritize this issue and take immediate action to make our dog park a safe space for all seasons.
