In September 2021, Valerie Rose Chan was diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome-positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Ph+ ALL), an aggressive and rare blood cancer. For the past three years, Valerie has shown remarkable resilience, enduring three relapses, two stem cell transplants, countless rounds of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, intrathecal chemotherapy, and numerous transfusions. Each battle has been a test of her strength, but her faith and determination have never wavered.
Before leukemia turned her life upside down, Valerie was devoted to her calling as a pastor and mentor. She holds a Master of Divinity degree from the International Graduate School of Leadership and served as a volunteer pastor at the United Evangelical Church of Legazpi. As a passionate worship leader, youth leader, and Life Group leader, she inspired and guided many young people to follow Christ. Even now, amidst her battle with leukemia, Valerie continues to share her spiritual reflections and journey through her blog at https://www.valerierosechan.me.
Despite her unwavering faith and efforts, Valerie’s leukemia persists. Her doctors have now recommended Blinatumomab Immunotherapy (Blincyto), a groundbreaking but extraordinarily expensive treatment. Blinatumomab is one of the most advanced drugs for leukemia, offering hope for those with persistent disease. Unfortunately, it is not available in the Philippines, and its cost is staggering: ₱145,000 (~C$ 3,600) per vial per day for a 28-day cycle, amounting to over ₱4 million (~C$ 100,000) per cycle. Valerie requires at least two cycles, with additional expenses for hospital admission, transfusions, and supportive medicines like antibiotics and pain medications.
This treatment represents Valerie’s best and only chance for her to be in remission. However, the financial burden is insurmountable without help. As a family, they have already exhausted their resources over the course of her years-long fight.
Your support can make a life-saving difference. Every donation, no matter how small, brings Valerie one step closer to continuing this critical treatment. Please join us in standing by her side as she fights for her life.
