Lifting Up Lupe - The Story
In spring of 2004, my mother Lupe was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer, GASTROINTESTINAL STROMAL TUMOR (GIST)*. The Garcia family had been fortunate and had never had to face a cancer diagnosis until Lupe. She was the mother of 5 young children ranging in age from 2 to 15. Her only thought was of fighting to be there for her kids yet preparing for an uncertain future.
Lupe fought a difficult battle and was victorious for 12 years…that is until this January when a liver hemorrhage almost cost her life. She discovered the cause of the hemorrhage is cancer and once again, she is fighting for her family and her future.
Life is never simple for anyone, and Lupe’s family was not exempt from other challenges. In September of 2014, Lupe’s husband Tim was in a horrible accident which almost claimed his life. Fortunately, after many surgeries and the amazing efforts of gifted medical providers, Tim survived, but his life will never be as it was once before; he lost his independence to do all he could before his debilitating injuries and as a result he lost his employment. Naturally that included the loss of his benefits such as insurance.
For eighteen months and counting, the Garcia’s have been struggling to make ends meet on a single income. We all know how tough things can be even when there are two incomes to support a family. But now that too has ceased. In March of this year, my mom, Lupe, had surgery to remove the cancerous tumor in her liver, losing >20% of it during the process and will soon begin a costly chemo medication process to help ward off any additional cancer battles. She needs the time to heal and not rush back to work.
Finally, just today, April 4th, my family learned of yet another medical challenge. My young sister will need to undergo surgery due to a sports injury. My mom is struggling to find a silver lining in anything. She is wondering what more could go wrong.
Hope for a brighter future
We all pray for a brighter future and we have faith that God will provide. My mom knows she has all of our love and support, but we all also know that she could use some help.
Please Act Today
What would you do if you knew that money was the only thing standing in the way of your mother’s ability to beat cancer? What would any parent, any child, any friend do?
We can't let this happen. We can't stand by and watch our mother lose hope and everything she is, suffer unimaginable pain and frustration.
Please help support our urgent mission to help my mom and our family make it over the next hurdle. Every cent counts, but even if all you can do is forward this link to as many people you know, you will have our eternal gratitude.
Help us. Join us in our quest. With your help, Lupe will win this struggle, this next battle.
Thank you. From the bottom my heart, with all of the gratitude and affection I could possibly offer. Determined, hopeful and eternally grateful, -Dani; Daniella Garcia
