This go-fund-me is to raise money for a properly altered Van to accommodate an electric wheelchair, the specialty wheelchair that is safest for LaAngel, and the specialty mattress that will help prevent skin breakdown and pressure ulcers, as well as adjustments needed to our home to accommodate her in her wheelchair. But, allow me to tell you about my beautiful daughter LaAngel.
My beautiful daughter underwent surgery In March 2015 to correct an abnormality found in her spine and skull. The surgery was rare but with a good prognosis when completed. Unfortunately the surgery didn't go well at all. LaAngel's brain steam and cervical spinal cord swelled and was compressed against her skull. This developed over the course of 48 hours after her first surgery. 12 hours after her first surgery she went into respiratory arrest and needed to be intubated. 24 hours after her first surgery she was unable to move anything below her neck. 48 hours after her first surgery, she was rushed back into surgery to decompress her brain steam and cervical spinal cord. In addition to this she developed hydrocephalus which required her to have an EVD External Ventricular Drain placed through her scull into her brain to drain off the extra cerebral spinal fluid. LaAngel started to regain some movement but her hell was not over. 2 weeks after her first surgery LaAngel had to have a trach placed in her trachea and a peg tub placed into her stomach. When she woke up from that surgery she had a massive seizure and basically was in and out of only slight consciousness for the next 2 weeks. She had her EVD replaced about 7 times and a second EVD placed next to the existing one which was also replaced several times as it kept clotting up with blood that was bleeding from the ventricles in her brain. She was unable to move anything except her toes. 2 weeks later and 1 month after her original surgery she was ready to have the Halo removed and the final part of her original surgery completed. She would need to have her scull fused to the remaining part of her spinal column. The surgery went well, but she woke up unable to move anything. two days after the fusion the doctors removed the right EVD and she hemorrhaged in her ventricle and had seizures the entire day. She again slipped in and out of consciousness for the next 3 weeks. During this time she developed horrible pneumonia which only made her even weaker than she already was. All attempts to wean her off of the ventilator were stopped. After gaining clearance from the infectious disease doctors LaAngel was cleared for her final surgery of a VP shunt placed in hopes it would drain the extra fluid off of her brain. SO as of now she has had 5 surgeries in 2 months. As of the date of writing this LaAngel is alert and able once again to blink once for yes and twice for no. She has moved her right leg twice and her toes once but not very consistently.

Her Medicaid was canceled and we are trying to get it reinstated, but the hospital is talking discharge and there are very few programs that she qualifies for. The rehab program will not accept her as she isn’t moving on her own. SO basically she will be discharged without rehab unless she starts moving independently. Our goal is to provide her with the most comfortable life we could possibly give considering we are getting no assistance for her care. We are in need of a vehicle with the proper alterations in order to accommodate her wheelchair and well as a proper wheelchair and appropriate bed that will not cause skin break down or pressure ulcers. With these supplies she can attend school at some point and allow her to be somewhat active with the family as well as stay healthy and safe from injury. Thank you for reading about my beautiful daughter. She was supposed to graduate from high school this year and was unable to attend her graduation.

She was so looking forward to this. It broke my heart in addition to all the other heart break of what has happened to her. LaAngel had already overcome so many difficulties in life with her special needs as a result of being neglected from birth and born to an alcoholic birthmother. LaAngel endured 3 years of foster care before God placed her in our lives.

She was so excited to be graduating and hoping to gain a job with Publix this summer. She had worked very hard to gain her independence and was doing wonderfully. She was full of life and took care of not only herself but loved to help others. She was even a peer helper to other special needs students at her school. She is the oldest of four and is a fantastic big sister. Now I am just hopeful she gets off the vent and can walk again. Thank you again for reading her story and for your support. Every little bit helps. God Bless.
