Lifting up Serena and Ryan

This October, Serena was diagnosed with a rare cancer, T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma. She began chemotherapy on 10/30 in a top-notch cancer center in Houston, Texas. On 11/1, Serena and Ryan welcomed their little boy, Bjorn Gideon Pent, into their family at 29 weeks. Bjorn, Danish for “bear,” and Gideon, Hebrew for “warrior” — and the strongest of warriors he is! Though the last few weeks have been a whirlwind of challenges, Serena and Ryan immediately fell in love with Bjorn and look forward to seeing and holding him as often as they can. Baby Bjorn is expected to be in the NICU through the end of the year, and Serena will be in and out of the hospital for regular chemotherapy treatments in Houston for the next few months. Serena and Ryan are still figuring out the logistics of being away from their home in Austin, as well as being near to Bjorn and getting Serena care in Houston.
