• • Update 12/14 • • Yesterday we were again back down in center city at Jefferson Hospital in the Interventional Radiology Dept for my 5th outpatient procedural drain check since the tube was placed in a sac that had abscessed in the pre-Sacral area of my pelvis (basically base of my spine) back in October. During the Thanksgiving emergent overnight admission I was pumped full of IV antibiotics to help regain control of the horribly painful abscess that had apparently spread via a 7cm long fistula tract to several other pockets running through my hip joint, overgrowing the sciatic nerve and draining into abdominal/pelvic peritoneal free space. My surgery back in August was for a Proctectomy (aka: Barbie butt in the ostomy community) due to an abscess from what was believed to be in the 4cm piece of rectum remaining that couldn’t be completely removed during my surgery of 10/2017 when I went in for a Peristomal hernia repair and coloproctectomy but due to complications couldn’t be completed. Since that surgery I have spent nearly every day vomiting in excruciating pain until medicinal marijuana was added to my pain management regimen. As of now, My tubes are still in. The size of the abscess in my presacral space has finally shrunk down a bit!! I go back on 12/23 to see how my body handles stopping the antibiotics... that’s 10 days, over thanksgiving was 17 days after stopping last rounds of antibiotics and the abscessed sacral sac nearly becoming septic thankfully caught before reaching bone infection. Unfortunately the other areas of pockets and fistula tract through hip and on sciatic nerve are somehow effected by the sacral sac... and they can’t figure out why nor can my varying surgeons and doctors agree with what is causing this. I have agreed with my family’s request, I go for a 3rd opinion at St.Lukes Bethlehem on 1/7. I have many who keep pushing me to also get another opinion from Penn as well.... The travel part is unbearably painful as is in Richie’s car, not to mention his salary was cut to hourly over a month ago due to how much time he was missing caring for me and my many appointments all this time and his PTO isn’t reinstated until April. More appointments mean more time off, therefore less pay. We barely made ends meet on his salary before surgery in August, we can’t afford for him to lose anymore pay. This burden of caring for me is causing my family so much more pain and stress, it’s too much for my heart to bear. A County assistance Social worker visited yesterday afternoon, who also highly suggested we go to Penn as well. This process of applying and waiting for county assisted-living assistance, if any is even available to us, takes quite some time. Unfortunately not sure we can get much, if any help, with County assistance with my home health care costs, or my out-of-pocket prescription and medical supplies costs come the new year. Thank you all who continue to pray for me and my family through all this. The meals have been such a huge help. Thanks for all who bought candles and/or donated or shared our story. Obviously an accessible van is a pipe dream right now, I’d settle for staying alive, infection and pain free preferably able to stay living at home with my family. I am however looking forward to Richie’s company Christmas party this evening, getting all dressed up and a night out... not in a hospital!! Have a wonderful weekend .
Thank you God Bless
