Lifting Lexa

Donation protected

The morning of November 17th, 2020 Alexa Viehmann (affectionately referred to as “Lexa” by her younger siblings) updated her Facebook status “Last night I convinced Jordan to decorate for Christmas and I’m so happy now.” Later that day she was en route to meet her fiancé Jordan when she was seriously injured in a car accident. When she didn’t show up, Jordan knew something was wrong and called Alexa’s mom. It wasn’t like Alexa to be late. They both reached out to family & friends, and then Alexa’s mom received a phone call from the hospital. They learned about the accident. Alexa was the only person injured, but her injuries were many.

Her car overturned into a creek. Fortunately she was found quickly and airlifted to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. On a ventilator, in a medically induced coma for almost 3 weeks, Alexa was treated for a brain injury, fractures to her pelvis, arm and neck, as well as for a DVT, pneumonia and a fever-inducing infection to her blood.

With her son’s first birthday and Christmas a month away, Alexa was fighting, even in sedation. We are so grateful for her caregivers and are happy to report that Alexa was transferred to a rehabilitation hospital on December 11, 2020.

Alexa’s road to recovery is going to be long. There will be things that insurance will not cover, and it is difficult to know if or when she will be able to return to work. A hairstylist and a crafter and furniture refinisher, she will need as much physical and occupational therapy as possible.

At 21 she is a young mom. She and her fiancé will need some support while she is recovering.

Their home needs modifications to the entrance and to the bathroom as soon as possible. Alexa’s medical team is trying to get her home as quickly as possible. She will need a wheelchair that may take months for insurance to approve so will need to be an out of pocket expense to start. They may need a different vehicle to safely transport her. In addition to the medical expenses and home modifications, they’ve gone from a two income household to a single one with a baby to provide for as well.

Your financial support will help to make her home safe. It will provide for assistive devices and therapy services. Through your donations of any amount, you are helping a young family survive an extremely difficult time, and you are helping a young woman to get her life back.

We know that 2020 has not been easy for anyone. If you can contribute please do. We also always welcome continued prayers and thoughts of healing and comfort.

You are all so appreciated!

For those that don’t know me, I am Alexa’s aunt. I’ve started this page with the permission of Alexa’s mom Sharon. She also has control of the page & the funds going directly to Alexa’s needs.

From our entire family, from Alexa, Jordan and baby Lane, we thank you for contributing toward Lifting Lexa!
