I’m Darren Webster, and this is my story.
In 2009, my life changed forever. A car, driven at high speed by a drunk and drugged driver, lost control and struck me as I was fastening my seatbelt. I woke from a coma in ICU two weeks later, after major surgeries that included brain and spinal procedures and the placement of steel rods in my back. The prognosis was uncertain, but I survived—though paralysed from the ribs down.
Since then, I’ve faced daily challenges, but I’ve also been fortunate to work with a company that has stood by me for the past 15 years, supporting me every step of the way.
Fast forward to July 2025: I developed serious pressure sores as a result of prolonged wheelchair use. What started as one sore became two, requiring urgent hospitalisation and over 60 days of strict bed rest at both the PA Hospital and Ipswich Hospital. These sores have been slow to heal and life-threatening if not managed properly. During this time, I’ve relied on borrowed air cushions that relieve pressure while sitting in my chair—but I urgently need specialised equipment of my own to manage this condition long-term.
That’s why a GoFundMe page has been set up on my behalf. The funds will go directly toward purchasing vital medical equipment to improve my quality of life, keep me safe, and allow me to regain independence.
I look forward to the day I can leave hospital, return to my normal routine, and continue contributing both at work and in life. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings me one step closer to that day—and I’m deeply grateful for your support.
