Lift Up Julia: Facing Cancer and Hardship

My name is Michelle Hamilton. This story is about a dear friend of mine, who I have known for almost 30 years. We have been the best of friends, though distance has always kept us far apart. We have helped each other through all the many highs and lows that life has handed to us. Julia has been a light in my life as well as many others. She has also always been quick to serve others, whether it was through church, school, and her kids, she does it with joy and kindness.

On July 1st, 2024, Julia was diagnosed with cancer—a battle no one should have to face alone. She faced chemotherapy with incredible strength, finishing treatment on December 26th. But despite her unwavering determination, the results were not as successful as we had all hoped for. In January, she underwent a double mastectomy, enduring an excruciating recovery. And now, as if she hasn’t been through enough, she’s preparing to start daily radiation treatments for the next six weeks.

Through every challenge, Julia has remained unbelievably strong, brave, and positive. Despite the pain, exhaustion, and uncertainty, she has continued to fight with grace and resilience—never letting this battle steal her spirit. Her courage is nothing short of inspiring.

But cancer is just one part of her story. In February 2023, Julia bravely left a difficult situation, determined to create a better future for herself and her children. She has been navigating a long and painful divorce, with no clear end in sight. Despite all of this, she has continued to work full-time—even just weeks after her mastectomy—because she has no other financial support. For the last 2 and a half years, she has been able to establish a home for herself and her children, providing for them and starting again from scratch. She lost everything—all of her belongings, memories, and worldly possessions—and has been able to reestablish a safe and comfortable home life with the support of her loving family and friends.

Julia is a warrior in every sense of the word, but even warriors need help. The financial burden over the past few months of growing medical bills, legal fees, and alternative medical treatments not covered by insurance is overwhelming. She has never asked for anything, but right now, she needs a community to lift her up.
