Let’s “LIFT UP” Sandra Remodel

One of Sandra’s wishes for anyone she meets is for that person to walk away with a smile and feel lifted up. We are asking for your help to “LIFT UP” Sandra by funding an elevator for her home.

A little over two years ago, Sandra was trying to save some money by pruning the trees in her yard. We’ve all heard to never get on a ladder when alone because bad things can happen.  We ignore it because we all believe that bad things only happen to someone else. Tragically, this time something terrible happened to Sandra. She fell five feet to the ground and instantly became a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the chest down. Mike, her husband, and their two kids anxiously worried about Sandra during the 52 days she spent in ICU. The kids cried often thinking their mom was not going to live. After this grueling two months, Sandra spent three months in a rehab facility. She finally was able to come home, but was excited and saddened at the same time.  She was saddened since their house is a two story with all bedrooms upstairs and she would have to sleep downstairs alone. Mike and Sandra looked at moving into a one story, but finding a house that could accommodate Sandra’s wheelchair and other needs would require a total remodel.  That would mean two house payments until their house sold and the one story could be made ready for Sandra.  Since she can’t transfer out of her wheelchair, a traditional chair lift that glides along the wall next to the stairs won’t work. Builders and real estate friends recommend installing an elevator in the house because it is the least cost option.

Mike brought a bed downstairs for Sandra when she came home two years ago.  The kids decided they didn’t want to be far away from their mom as they thought they had lost her after the accident.  Since the first night she came home, the whole family has been sleeping downstairs in the family room.  Sandra is on the bed; Rachel, their 10 year old daughter, sleeps on the couch; Mike and their 12 year old son, Michael, sleep on the floor.  If you can help us raise enough money for an elevator and a bathroom remodel it would really “LIFT UP” Sandra and her family.  It will give them the chance to finally sleep in real beds and feel like there is a little more normalcy in their lives.
